Wastage of money could still be stopped, but there are wastages of other precious resources that go on happening without being noticed. Take the case of wasting health by a cigarette smoker. He/ she may continue smoking without realizing its health hazard. When the health actually deteriorates, nothing could be done about it. Good health could have helped in crossing many more milestones, but alas it got wasted.
Another precious resource wasted unconsciously is time. If health could still be regained, wasted time could never be. People keep sitting before TV or computer or for that matter playing cards or watching other people in the upmarket area without realizing the waste of time. Much later, when others have moved on and they lag behind, they feel sorry about it. Many students feel relieved if they don't have anything to study about and enjoy themselves instead. They lament when they fail. The same goes for people who ignore responsibility and waste time in unnecessary activities. They repent later for not achieving their objectives.
There is even a greater waste, which all of us are committing, but have no clue about it. Perhaps it will be realized towards the end of our life. This is the wastage of our life itself. Man has always wondered about the purpose of life but has no answers. In the absence of any answers, he continues to live a stereotyped life, passing through the stages of education, earning, entertainment etc. And finally demise. Earning money, winning awards, nursing ambitions to rule the world and the idea of such other accomplishments become the purpose of our life. In reality such achievements have no meaning because even the most revered person (revered for his/ her accomplishments) is forgotten soon after his/ her death.
There is a ray of hope shown to us by the men of wisdom. Accordingly, every person has a potential to reach an oceanic experience within. This experience has been called enlightenment. The experience is surrounded in mystery because you can experience it but not explain it. Experiencing enlightenment then is the only purpose life has. If we miss the experience, the life is wasted.
If you are not taking the first step towards enlightenment, surely you are letting the whole opportunity of life go a waste. Least you realize it at the last moment, pick up the hint and start on the journey straight away.
