Why Mother's day celebration important: Explains mothers of Gurgaon school
A decade back mother's day was celebrated with a simple kiss and a simple card, but these days the entire day is full celebration. The culture of making the day special is becoming quite a ritual in the big cities, especially in schools. In keeping with this tradition, Kidzee play-school in Gurgaon also celebrated mother's day with a number of events.
Fashion show, Rangoli, Salad making and Fun and Masti were the high points of the celebration, whereby mothers and children participated with full zeal. The entire school was decked up in balloons and mothers were proudly participating in the events of the day with their children. From walking the ramp, talking about female foeticide to decorating salads- the mothers were putting their best foot forward for the event. Around 30 mothers with their kids were participating in the events.
Trying to understand why the celebration of any kind of day has become so important, we talked to a number of people. Priyanka Sarkar, a teacher at the school said, ''Although it is important to celebrate the day to show that parents are important, but somehow it feels that it is more of a fashion trend.'' A mother, Kavita Kalra, who was one of the finalist of the fashion show and spoke eloquently about female foeticide said, ''It is very important to celebrate this day as this encourages women and makes them feel good about all the efforts they take in their daily life.''
Ngoziakuma Blessing, whose child is also a part of Kidzee, talking about the school and Mothers day said, ''I love this school for two reasons- the staff are really friendly and secondly this school's curriculum matches with Nigerian school's curriculum. Mother's day in Nigeria is usually spent in a similar manner, but we also visit our Church.''
Adding to it, she also said, '' It is very important to celebrate Mother's day as without mothers there would be no headway and mothers take care of everything, so they should be celebrated in every way.''
