Why Mother's Day remains special for us all?
Let us salute all the mothers on this special day. No doubt our mother is a goddess for us - She knows our needs and makes sure that they are fulfilled. Let us show our love and concern for them on Mother's Day.

THE CONCEPT of Mother’s Day is still in its infancy stage in India, however it is catching up with major festivities like Valentine’s Day celebrated here. For most Indians this western concept has gone down very well and unlike Valentine’s Day, this day doesn’t witness any protests by some extremist groups.

Ancient wisdom in India has always suggested that a mother shares the same stand as a goddess; a day devoted to a person’s mother was something new. Indian society generally has immense respect for their mothers than fathers. Thanks to globalization, this western festival of Mother’s Day has found its place in India as well.

Commercialization has given this festivity the much-needed response. Similar to the western countries, now celebrations in metropolitan cities are held with great spectacle and they are fast spreading into smaller cities too. Like in Australia, Belgium, Denmark, and Finland, India also celebrates Mother’s Day on the second Sunday of May. This time it is being celebrated on May 13th, 2012.

This Citizen Journalist asked some school students as to why Mother’s Day remains special to them and what they are doing for their mothers on this day?

Roman Bebo, 13, said: “The bond between my mother and me is strong and her sacrifices are matchless. I will dedicate my each day to her and celebrate what she means to me - I will gift her flower and Archies card.”

Anushi Bandra, 11, said: “Mothers have magic touch to help us heal our wounds, physical and emotional. I thank her that I am breathing right now in the world due to her. For me sweet kiss is best gift.”

Sulaka Barua, 15, said: “When you want to climb the tallest mountain, she will always stand for you. She is always with us to support our dreams and remind us about eating, sleeping, studying etc. Has anyone in this world done such hard work for us, I salute my mom. She is special for me. I will promise her that I will work much harder to stand on my feet and care for her, this is more precious gift.”

Manav Gaur, 5, said: “She loves me so much, drops me at bus stand, buys chocolates, clothes, toys and so many things. I will gift her chocolate and flower.”

Bhumika Tickoo, 14, said: “Mothers ears and eyes hear and see everything of children. She is backbone of our family and provides holding place for our feeling. Her smile makes my day a whole lot better. I will thank my mom for being my mother and will take her for a surprise brunch.”

There is something beyond words to express to the person who helped you in every phase of life and who gave you unconditional love. Show her your care by acknowledging her value in your life. Happy Mother’s Day! And thank you, Mom.
