Why no Tibet in Indo-China border talks: Tibetan Youth Congress
Tibetans in Delhi came together at Jantar Mantar and other places to protest against the Chinese delegates visit to New Delhi. The spokesperson for Tibetan Youth Congress, Konchok Yangphel, spoke with merinews.com about how Tibet was not on the agenda.
“HISTORY SAYS there were no border between India and China before 1969, but after China occupied Tibet, this border came into being,” said Konchok Yangphel, spokesperson for Tibetan Youth Congress, while speaking to merinews.com. The Tibetans have been fighting for Tibet’s independence for more than 50 years now.
Around 400 Tibetans in the capital had gathered at
Jantar Mantar, where they staged a peaceful protest. Yangphel, says, “We were protesting against the Chinese delegation that have come over to Delhi for talks”. Yangphel is not happy as these delegates would not be bringing the Tibetan issues on the forefront during the talks. Majority of these Tibetans who had come for the protest are residents of Majnu ka Tilla, Delhi.
Though the protest at Jantar Mantar has already finished, there are some sort of protests at ITC Maurya hotel in Delhi, where the Chinese delegates are residing. Another protest is also going to take place at Hyderabad house, later today around 3: 30 pm. The protest that took place today went off in a very peaceful manner, as Yangphel said, “We follow non-violence”.
Yangphel still hopes that the Government of
India and China recognise Tibet as an independent nation. It is a dream for Tibetans like Yangphel around the world, who longs to be freed from Chinese domination. Tibetans around the
world consider the Tibetan issue very close to their heart. They have a strong history of protests, especially the massive protest ahead of the
Olympic Games 2008, where protestors tried to disrupt Olympic torch relay all around the world.
