Until basic safety issues are addressed, a safe, secure and modern railway network is still some distance away. How long people have to suffer from this. It is not only government liability, but also people's responsibility to follows safety norms.
IF WE look at statistics of air accident worldwide, there are fewer people die per kilometer traveled by air than in any other sort of transport and it is considered a safer mode of travels as compared to other means. Air India Express' flight IX-812 disaster is a major air crash that hit India in the last one decade, where there have been innumerable road and rail disasters, which have claimed hundreds of lives in the country. India has one of the poorest record of accidents in the world. More people die in road accidents in India than anywhere else does in the world despite we drive slower than most comparable countries.
Why accidents are happening in India? why we have worst road and railways safety records in the World. Indian roads witness one accident every minute and one death in road mishaps every two minutes.
And more than half of the road accident victims are in the age group of 25 and 65 years, the key wage earning and child raising age group. Mostly our policies singles out fault of the drivers as the major reason of road deaths. The major menace is drunkun driving. Faults of cyclists, pedestrians, motor vehicles, bad road and weather conditions are hardly identified as the factors for fatalities on roads across the country. In the absence of proper investigation of road mishaps, local police puts the onus of these accidents on the drivers. The governments' failure to regulate the issuance of driving licenses and lack of proper training of drivers, poor traffic management, lack of reform of road safety system are contributing to this high occurrence of road mishaps, But who cares. It is because of a constant reluctance to follow basic procedure. Our non-implementation of regular laws adds more fuel to fire. The number of accidents involving trains is on the rise, but the government is yet to put railway safety on the fast track. Until basic safety issues are addressed, a safe, secure and modern railway network is still some distance away. How long people have to suffer from this. It is not only government liability, also people responsibility to follows safety norms of country.
