Why the BJP, Sangh Parivar and Govt can't afford another Bofors in Rafale?
Many talks, discussions and debates have been conducted so far on Rafele fighter jets procurement from France. Serious accusations have been levelled for gaining political mileage out of anticipation of peoples' outrage.

The recent election rhetoric has also been on the streets for the winning side. Claims have been made for the election gain out of Rafale in MP, Chhattisgarh & Rajasthan. However, this has not been substantiated so far with concrete data from the ground.

The opposition's only aim for equating Rafale to Bofors, is a well thought out provoking idea for a political strategy like '89. If Bofors issue had the potential for bringing so many opposition parties together & successful in winning country wide elections & forming National Front Coalition Government, Why not Rafale? The Congress party seems to be strategizing the similar concept what VP Singh has done to Rajeev Gandhi. Can the similar situation be drawn upon to Narendra Modi in 2019 general elections?

The denial by almost all stakeholders (French Govt / Dassault Aviation/ Reliance)   has put the opposition in a quandary. Also, not all the opposition are on board as Indian National Congress. Now, at this situation, the question for all political parties, what can be the next & alternative political strategy could be drawn upon for maximum political advantage. Is Rafale issue can be a game changer? Whether it can be really equated to Rajeev – VP Singh Situation of 1989? After all, politics is the art of strategizing. If not Rafele, what else?

On the other hand, the government of the day can't afford to have the situation go out of control. Almost every top leadership of BJP are clarifying on a day-to-day press conferences & TV debates. Having majority of stakeholders on government side, they are clearly drafting the agenda for 2019 elections. Even the Supreme Court ruling has come at a suitable time.

Even after all these, the ruling govt's spokespersons, govt supporting media houses, pro-Modi journalists are all trying their level best for a near closure of the issue. In other way, although not succeeded so far, the situation of dog fight & sharp criticism may backfire at the opposition, in the days to come.

However, it is to be noted that times have changed. Rules of the political game have changed. Situations are different for Bofors and Rafale. Politics has evolved in the last three decades. Ruling and opposition has took 180 degree turn. Most importantly VP Singh was all along a Congressman, who revolted against Rajeev Gandhi, with not only the Bofors agenda in hand but also other issues like HDW, issues with top corporates like Dhirubhai Ambani, Bachchans, and also overall functioning of PM Rajeev Gandhi & his interference with Finance & Defence Ministry.

At the same time, not all but only Congress is raking up the issue. No difference of opinion within the BJP. They seem to be well united for a natural befitting reply to the main opposition. Also, during this battle, BJP is able to keep its NDA flock together on this issue at least.

Now a days after almost 30 years after the Bofors scandal, media communication is playing a great role in delivering smart information flow to the citizens. Social media has been a major invention. Communication has played a major role for projecting sentiments and mood of the nation. Situation is completely different. Looking into all these, Political Strategy has to be well drafted and thoroughly scrutinized by the present leadership for all political parties.

The big think tank, Sangh Parivar well involved for drafting the guidance & advice for the BJP. Though Rafale issue may not a worthy factor for judging the mood of the voters, but yes, this can only be one of the major distracting factor for a heated political argument, which at the moment, BJP can't afford to have this Rafale issue equating bofors.

Hence the key to be seen whether the renewed political strategy will pay dividend for the Government or the opposition during 2019 Lok Sabha elections?
