Petition to PM: From wife of the Gurgaon doctor, who died in a road accident
It always takes a tragedy in India to address an issue. We have many examples in the latest times where the same have been true time and again. The latest in the list has been the death of three year old Lineshya and her father Dr. Prakash Gupta, who was killed by a rouge bus driver. The matter got everyone's attention to the poor state of road safety and how badly the bus drivers conduct themselves on road with no sense of either the passenger's safety or the people on the road's safety. The wife of the deceased man, Jyoti, has written an emotional petition to the Prime Minister to look into the road safety situation of Gurgaon.
She wrote a letter
describing the death of her husband and daughter. Having witnessed
the death, she talked how both of the victim were dragged along the
bus and crushed to death. Talking about road laws, the petitioner
Jyoti says, '' We need a law that includes: i) protection for
children, pedestrians and cyclists during commute, ii) increased
enforcement, iii) mandatory road safety education, and iv)
transparent and efficient process for getting a licence.''
This petition went up in change.org at
around 8 am on Thursday and till date 1951 people have supported the
petition. She wrote that she is not the only one who lost everything
in the span of just few minutes but there are other people and the
person who is responsible for the death of her husband is walking
free on bail.
Adding, she also included in her
letter, ''I am not alone. Even cabinet minister Gopinath Munde died
in a road accident recently. In fact, in the last 10 years, more than
one million people have died in road accidents in India. This needs
to change. That's why I started this petition with Save Life
Foundation asking PM Narendra Modi to ensure a stronger road safety
law and introduce it in Parliament."
