SENIOR BJP leader LK Advani today began his sixth nationwide yatra, Jan Chetna Yatra from Chhapra district in Bihar. The yatra scheduled for 38 days, was flagged off by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who had previously shown reluctance to be part of the yatra's arrangements. As the yatra was flagged, Advani was flanked by other senior leaders of BJP including Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitely. The 7,600 km yatra began from Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan’s birth place at Sitab Diara in Bihar.

Spewing venom at the UPA government, Advani set the tone for his yatra by mentioning corruption, black money, price rise and electoral reforms as the main hindrances that were taking the country backwards. Without being particular in naming any leader from the ruling UPA, Advani was quoted saying by The Pioneer that the mood in India today is one of anger about the quality of politics and governance. This anger has grown on account of inadequacy of leadership provided by the central government and the complete decline of ethical politics pursued by the ruling Congress-led UPA coalition.
Advani also stated that his sixth nationwide yatra will concentrate on redefining India’s parliamentary democracy and lauded the civil society movement championed by anti-graft activist Anna Hazare.
When asked why there was a need for another yatra, Advani said, “The mood in India today is one of anger about the quality of politics and governance. This anger has grown on account of inadequacy of leadership provided by the Central Government and the complete decline of ethical politics pursued by the UPA”, reported The Pioneer.
Political pundits are not confident that Advani's yatra will pay political dividends. Perhaps the timing is not right as nobody wants mid-term polls and the next General Elections are almost 2 years away. BJP seems to have miscalculated the mood of the nation as far as timing of political attack is concerned. The Congress party is under attack from diferent quarters, its also taking remedial action as much as possible and is counter-attacking whenever the situation arises. At most, what Adavni will achieve is media and a bit of political mileage on behalf of BJP - especially so as niether RSS nor the BJP have formally announced BJP's prime ministerial candidate, and Advani doesn't figure in either party's list as of now.
