There are several rounds of rumours that are going around that state that the airlines are going to shut down its Kolkata base. It may be turn out to be true as some staff of Kingfisher went on a strike as their salaries were not paid, which lead to cancellation of one flight on Friday, reported The Times of India. The employees of Kingfisher airlines fear that they might not be paid their salaries, as they have heard that their counter would be shut down from February 20.
The financial condition of the airlines has seen a major downfall, as they are said to have build up a debt of around Rs. 10,000 crore. Top officials of various banks were involved in a meeting for gruelling six hours in order to provide further funds. Still, the meeting could not be successful, which was bad news for Kingfisher.
It is not going to be a big surprise, if Kingfisher's promoters decide to shut down their base at Kolkata. The airlines staff must also be expecting the same with things that has been going around in recent times. The number of flights from Kolkata has also decreased in the past year or so. Staff members have also been sent to other bases such as Mumbai, Bangalore, etc. These facts should explain the ground reality in Kingfisher airlines.
