Will people get clean candidates this time in Uttar Pradesh?
How the electorate of Uttar Pradesh will react to tarnished candidates would be known to all after the polls get over and the results get out. That will tell whether the people accepted the candidature of these nominees or rejected them.
THE PEOPLE of this great nation may be trying their level best to fight the devil called corruption along with social activist Anna Hazare at Jantar Mantar in Delhi and elsewhere in the country, but the political parties present here have different views on the subject, and if one goes by the list of probable candidates going to contest the upcoming assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh, it seems our political parties are not interested at all in giving us a clean choice to elect from.

This is the real irony that we don’t get good candidates with clean image and strong character at the time of elections, and all political parties ultimately field candidates who either had a dubious past or have a doubtful integrity. This only adds to the problems of electorate who at times find it extremely hard to pick-up a candidate on the basis of merit sans caste and regional factors.

The state president of Samajwadi Party (SP) Akhilesh Yadav issued first list of candidates for Uttar Pradesh polls here in Lucknow which had 165 names in the list. Now if one look at the list closely it has the names of leader of opposition in Vidhan Sabha Shivpal Singh Yadav, who is also the uncle of Akhilesh Yadav and he has been declared as party’s candidate from Jaswant Nagar.

Others included Juhi Singh, daughter of former Uttar Pradesh chief secretary Akhand Pratap Singh whose name figured in the most corrupt IAS list, has been declared party’s candidate from Lucknow (East) constituency, Amanmani Tripathi son of jailed minister Amarmani Tripathi will fight from Nautanwa, Vir Singh Patel son of dreaded dacoit Dadua, who was killed in police encounter, will contest from Chitrakoot assembly seat.

Another MLA Vijay Mishra, who was accused in the case of bomb attack on BSP minister Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi in Allahabad will contest from Gyanpur seat. Uttar Pradesh has 403 assembly seats and the party will finalise the list of other candidates soon so that all candidates could get ample time for poll preparations, and what more names the other list would have, we will be getting it shortly but one thing is certain that political parties are not interested in giving the public an honest choice.
