Will this sting by the Cobra post impact the upcoming Lok Sabha elections?
Cobra post has claimed that the demolition of Babri Masjid was not a spontaneous act by Kar Sevaks in craze but was planned well in advance by some of the top leaders. They have interviewed 23 key people of the Ram Janambhoomi movement. The sting says that the 'Operation Janambhoomi' was planned in great detail to demolish the Babri masjid on 6 December 1992. It also says that LK Advani and PV Narsimha Rao knew of the elaborated plot to demolish Babri Masjid.

The BJP has opposed this sting operation and questioned the timings of the sting operation. The also alleged that the sting operation was sponsored, and accused Congress of using "pawns" to vitiate the atmosphere before elections. BJP requested the Election Commission to stop the publication and telecast of the sting operation on Babri Masjid.

Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, BJP spokesperson, reportedly told to TOI, “We had in the morning spoken to Election Commission and also written a letter that an NGO named Cobrapost in the name of a sting operation is planning to show a sponsored sting on the sensitive Ram Janambhoomi-Babri Masjid issue ... Its telecast and publication should be immediately barred.”

BJP is more concerned about the timing of the sting, rather than its content as the election is at its peak and the atmosphere is friendly and peaceful, and such kind of activities can ruin it. Will this sting by the Cobra post impact the upcoming Lok Sabha elections?

We talked to few political analyst and took their views on this topic. They feel that these kind of stings will not effect the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, as the people already know about the content of the sting. Sudhir Panwar, a Luknow based political analyst says that, “The minority community already knows about the alliance of PV Narsimha Rao (Congress) and LK Advani (BJP) on the Babri manjid issue. Though the timing to release the sting was made keeping the elections in mind, but the sting will not really make a great impact on the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.”

Some political analyst also feels that its an advantage for BJP to consolidate their Hindu votes. Anand Pradhan, Associate professor at Indian Institute of Mass Communication says, “this particular sting will have no impact on the upcoming elections, because most of the people are aware of it and the sting is just a new addition to the truth. Although it may benefit BJP, as at the ground level they are campaigning on communal basis, and this sting will help them to consolidate the Hindu votes.”
