Shikhar Dhawan earned a huge name for himself last year after scoring an impressive ton in his Test debut against Australia in Mohali. He scored 187 runs and it was his aggressive approach, which made the world sit up and take notice. But, it was his performance during the 2013 Champions Trophy, which was taken note by Wisden, as Shikhar Dhawan has been acknowledged as one of the five cricketers of the year, 2013.
The lad from Delhi had turned out to be a virtual run machine for India in the tournament, where he showed his skills with the willow plonking bowlers all over the park . Such was his performance that people drew comparisons with Sehwag at the time. With an average of more than 90 in the competition, he scored 363 runs, as a result of which he was declared the man of the series as well.
Though, one would say that the year 2014 has not been the same for Shikhar Dhawan, as he has been found wanting in a number of matches. As a result of which, he has been in and out of the starting eleven. Recently, he was even dropped out of the starting eleven in the elusive ICC T20 World Cup in Bangladesh as well, including the finals against Sri Lanka.
Apart from the Indian players, other cricketers such as Chris Rogers and Ryan Harris, England batsman Joe Root and England women's captain Charlotte Edwards were four other cricketers to receive the honours for 2013.
