With Gurgaon facing acute power shortage, industries demand more power supply
On one hand Gurgaonwallas are sweating it out this summer due to acute power shortage, industrialists are demanding complete 24 hour power supply unaffected by the fact that almost half of the Gurgaon citizens are living without the requisite electricity.
At a meeting with industrialists in Gurgaon on Monday, Devender Singh, Pricipal Secretary (power) and Chairman, Haryana Power Utilities told Times Of India that on an average 23.5 hours of electricity is supplied to industries everyday against the scheduled allotment of 20.5 hours. However, industrialists disagreed with Devender Singh and claimed that they were facing power outage of up to 5 hours almost every day. To this, Singh replied that utilities intend to provide 24 hour qualitative power supply to industries. He also said that total istalled capacity of power generation has increased to over 10,000 MW.

The Government is making efforts to create additional capacity of generation to meet the increasing power demand, which is 8-10 per cent per annum at the state level and 15-20 per cent per annum in Gurgaon and Faridabad.

Singh claimed that Haryana is one of the highly economically developed states in India with the splendid economic growth, sound industrial infrastructure and strong manufacturing base. He added, ''Electricity is major part of the infrastructure that attracts entrepreneurs to set industrial units in a state.''

He further said that keeping in mind the needs of various Industries, the power transmission and distribution system is also being strengthened accordingly and commercial establishments apart from the domestic category consumers and as many as 53 new sub-stations have been commissioned in Haryana during last one year.
