Woman fined for denying best pieces of chicken to husband
A woman in Zimbabwe landed into soup for not giving her husband the 'best pieces' of chicken. The bizarre part of the story, however is that a village court has fined the woman and called her 'uncultured and disrespectful'.

IN OLDEN days, when women didn't even know the meaning of emancipation, the news that a woman was found guilty of not giving her husband the juiciest piece of chicken would have drawn gasp of exclamation among the women folk itself. But then women in those times would not have even thought to rebel against the man of the house. However today, in the days of equality, the incident gets giggles and exasperation at the tomfoolery of the husband.

The Zimbabwean assaulted his wife and dragged her to a local court, where she was found guilty of not providing her husband with the best pieces of chicken, as a part of the local custom. Apparently, as was reported by telegraph.co.uk, Nomusa Sibanda, 24 gave her husband only one drumstick and wings while she herself ate the other drumstick and the breast of the chicken.

The man, Jabulani Ncube, 40 got so angry with the incident that he assaulted her, so much so that the woman fled to her grandmother's place. However, Ncube was not satisfied with the punishment he handed out to his wife and went to the village court with the complaint that his wife was "uncultured and disrespectful". He further gave a warning to his wife that in case the wife did not dish out the breast and the drumstick to him in future he would definitely divorce her.

Sibanda seems to be liberated and a free spirit as she brushed aside her husband's allegations and threats with the simple logic that if she was expected to slaughter chicken for him then how long will she go without tasting the back portion? Unfortunately, her village people thought otherwise and she was found guilty and fined a chicken. In the whole ruckus, even her grandmother got dragged and was fined as well for failing to teach her granddaughter “how to treat her husband and dish out meals.” In spite of what the local authorities thought, the woman must be cheered for standing for her rights and being what she is.
