Woman is the equal of man and that's how she should be treated
In India women carry out several roles - often at the same time. They support their families financially, emotionally, and maternally. What's required is strong government legislation in crimes..
MOTHER, SISTER, daughter, wife - different name but played by one -  a woman. In ancient times women were given a glorified status but with the coming of the Mughals purdah system came into vogue.

Then, during the freedom struggle women showed their great power. Jhansi ki Rani fought until her death, and in the 20th centurey there were women such as Sarojni Naidu, Kasturba Gandhi, Aruna Asaf Ali, and many others, who participated and fought with great power and passion for our country's freedom.

Presently, women have been playing major role in politics, economy, household, society and nation building. Pratibha patil is the first women president of India.
Sonia Gandhi, UPA chairperson, Shiela Dikshit, chief minister of Delhi, Sushma Swaraj, leader of opposition in Lok Sabha - these are the few leading ladies in the field of politics.

Women have proved themselves to be more hardworking and sincere in all the walks of life. No one can forget PT Usha, Arundhati Roy, Kalpana Chawla, Mother Teresa - these women have done a great job in the fields of sports, literature, space, and for the welfare of the society.

Recent school results reveal that girls perform better than boys in Board examinations and competitive exams.

With all the success attained by women, people have just ignored their achievement, their sacrifice for families, and continue to treat them as if they have no value and respect in the society.

The incidents of female infanticide, rape, bride burning, domestic violence are common. Inspite of being 50 per cent of the Indian population, they are treated very badly, and don't enjoy prominence in this vast country at social, family and national levels.

Some of the reasons responsible for their pathetic condition are a male dominated society, male ego, social beliefs and above this, the illiteracy and backwardness of women.

Incidents such as dowry, sex determination, domestic violence, and child marriage are still prevalent in the Indian society. If a woman is housewife then she has a very limited circle, if she is a working women her position is not too better as she deserves. Indian society has bound women in the name of culture, tradition and belief.

The solution to this problem is deeply rooted in our psyche. It is very important for others to understand the importance of women in their life and their society.

It is essential to make the male ego compatible with the female identity - a husband must respect their wife as she is the one who take care of his family, she is the one who teaches the child how to live in the society. If she is a working he must co-operate with her, she should not treat her as a mere money-making tool.

The government should take several steps in the upliftment of women. It should provide facilities for the development of women they should work hard for women literacy, health and security, so that she could move fearlessly and independently.

Indian women have great patience and dedication for the family and the society. She should not be treated as a labourer or worker, she should not be assaulted like an animal. She should be treated as an equal to man.
