It is great that American major political party, Democratic Party, has shown courage and given an opportunity to Obama for presidential candidature without making any discrimination on the ground of colour. But, we must remember that the world superpower has failed to deliver a female president. It is also a stark reality that we can not defy his capability as he is educationist lawyer and also as a great visionary leader blessed with analysis skills of political atmosphere and capability to create a new philosophy of peace. Time will tell whether he would be first black-American president or just become a Democrat nominated presidential candidate. With the defeat of Hillary Clinton, one thing has become quite coherent that Americans are not yet prepared to offer the highest post to women. However, they call themselves as one of the most liberal countries of the world! They also show that they are the only country, which is fighting for the cause of women and their rights and insisting other countries, especially Arab world to promote women and offer them high post. United State representative to UN proudly announced that they are ready to take on females in every sphere but reality is far away from it. There are rape cases in America too and the rate of such cases is extremely high, being one women getting raped at every six second. So you can well conclude the number of rape victims in a day, week, month and a year. In the present Democrat presidential election, older women have voted to Clinton while younger women chosen Obama and this seems to surprise me. I’ve seen this very clearly in the reaction of American people.
There is no doubt that still people of America are breathing under the umbrella of patriarchal nature and they want this to continue, this is the reason Hillary Clinton lost nomination battle against Obama. Banner headline of New York Times (Hillary Clinton’s defeat: A historic triumph) wonder every single citizens of the world who are constantly working to up-gradation of women. It is very unfortunate that American women have to wait for another five or 10 years to get a chance to fight election for American president.
Majority of Americans think that a woman candidate’s biggest weakness: the ability to be seen as a plausible commander-in-chief. These people are raising question over the capabilities of women in 21st century! I think that they are still breathing in 19th century and are not ready to accept women supremacy over male dominant society. But Clinton has given clear message that one day women will certainly lead the nation that is blessed with limitless power. We hope that next time Americans will certainly accept women dominance and elect a woman president.
