Women detained in France for wearing burqa post ban
Since the French government authorised the ban on wearing burqa or naqab in the public, two women were detained by the police for violating the ban. Apart from the two women, two more persons were arrested in similar incidents.
FRANCE'S BAN on adorning the burqa came into effect from April 11, 2011. The judgement stated that it is illegal to wear a full face veil in public, except at public places of worship. During the first day of the ban, the local police arrested two women, who were wearing Islamic veils at a protest of the France’s ban on the covering of the face by Muslim women. The ban makes France the first country in the world to forbid the veils anywhere in the public.
Guidelines of the ban says that police is forbidden from asking women to remove their burqa on the street. Instead of that they will be escorted to the police station and asked to remove the veil for further investigation.
This ban has been widely criticised by Muslims all over the world. This has caused an uproar in France, since the time this news has been doing the rounds. According to information, there are about five million Muslims residing in France.
