Women police stations to be set up in Meghalaya
Cases concerning crimes against women and children will be first registered with the local police stations, having jurisdiction in the place of occurrence and these would then be transferred to the area's women stations.
THE PRINCIPAL Secretary to the Meghalaya government, Home (Police) department has informed that the state has notified the creation of a women Police Station for dealing with crime against women and children in each District Headquarters of the State. These would be formed in the interest of public, having jurisdiction over the respective District boundary with immediate effect.

The existing women police cells, functioning in the seven districts would now function as women police stations and will work under the jurisdiction of the concerned Superintendent of police. There would be a crime against women cell in the CID, which would monitor the work of these police stations, as the former would send regular monthly reports to the latter.
 
Cases shall be initially registered with the local police stations, having jurisdiction in the place of occurrence and these would take all preliminary actions before transferring the case to the area's women station.
 
The cases these special station would deal with for investigation and prosecution, would be, those of rape, molestation, kidnapping or abduction, eve teasing, murder for dowry by burning or by other means, attempt to murder for dowry by burning or by other means, cruelty by husband or relatives, leading to suicide, importing of girls below 18 years, importing of girls between 18 to 21 years, Immoral Traffic Prevention Act, Indecent representation of Women (as per provisions of Women Prohibition Act) and cases of missing children.
