Women rights groups meets CEC; complains against attacks on females in W. Bengal during polls
A joint delegation comprising of various women rights groups met NHRC Chairperson, SC/ST Commission in-charge (Haryana & West Bengal) and Chief Election Commissioner and submitted a memorandum prepared regarding the outrageous acts of violence on women in general and a most heinous episode of attack on Santana Mandal, a 35 year old dalit agriculture woman allegedly by Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers in Hooghly district of West Bengal during the election campaigning and polling process.
The details of suffering of the victims were placed in front of them for their urgent and immediate intervention, says a statement by the AIDWA.

The delegationcomprisedofJagmatiSangwan,GeneralSecretaryAIDWA,SudhaSundararamanVicePresident(AIDWA);AnnieRaja,GeneralSecretaryNFIW;NishaSharma,YWCArepresentingtheNationalWomen'sOrganizationsAllIndiaWomen'sAssociation(AIDWA)andNationalFederationofIndianWomen(NFIW),JointWomen'sProgramme(JWP),GuildofService(GOS),YoungWomenChristianAssociation(YTWCA),MuslimWomen'sForum,AllIndiaDalitMahilaAdhikarManch(AIDMAM),AllIndiaWomen'sConference.

The AIDWA in its statement said that theSC/STCommissionMemberIshwarSinghspoketothein-chargeoftheHumanRightsCommissioninWestBengalandaskedtoreportallthedetailsofSantanaMondalcasetohimbytodayitself.

TheNHRCchairpersonexpressedhisseriousconcerntowardstheattackonwomenthosewhoarecomingforwardtoplaytheirpoliticalrole.TheCommissionwilldemandadetailedreportfromtheHumanRightsCommissioninWestBengalandappropriateactionwillbetaken, says the statement.

TheElectionCommissionChairpersonVSSampathexplainedtothedelegationthathe was askingforaactiontakenreportfromtheDMandPoliceCommissioneroftheconcerndistricts,sothatajustfulactioncan be takenandifrequiredfurtheractionmayberecommended.
