Women still tortured by 'civilised' society
How does one define a developed country? Should superstition and witchcraft still prevail in a developed country? Why is it always the women who become a victim to such causes? Doesnt the society as a whole have anything to do about it?

EVENTS OF torturing women on allegations of witchcraft even in this 21st century are true. In Durmariya-Adlakcnak village near Maner in Patna district, 45-year-old Lalpari Devi had been tortured by a group of people who alleged that she was witch. They tied her to a tree and beat her brutally. They also cut off her hair.

Even in this 21st century, which is also known as the informative age, we still believe in superstition, when we talk about India as a developed nation. This shows that people still have middle age mindset. They are also involved in different types of illogical activities.

We can simply say that, this is Bihar’s news and ignore it and blame it on their illiteracy. But it is not only about any region or state. We have numerous examples of similar incidences from different parts of our country. Our news channels are continuously broadcasting news about superstition almost everyday.

Another angle to this event is the safety of women in our society. Why is it always the women, who are suspected to be witches? This event shows that there is insecurity among women in our society. Male dominated society wants to protect its supremacy and it can go to any extend for that. If any person, especially women protest against it, they become victims of abuse.

In recent event, police has arrested six people for indulging in this act of torture. All those responsible for this brutal event should be punished. We have to spread awareness against superstition and harassment against women.
