I DONT know whether I will be termed misogynist by the people or not but I strongly feel there is no point in making any law which allows reservation of 33 per cent seats in parliament and state legislatures for women.
The problem with our nation is that we as a people are not logical. We have never been since independence. That’s why we make very good policies with very good vision but we are seldom aware of ground realities. This is the sole reason why we are still lagging far behind in HUMAN DEVELOPMENT INDEX with respect to other countries. The current bill tabled in Indian parliament to give reservation to women in parliament and state legislatures is a step in the same direction. In other words good intentions but bad results .The purpose behind to make this bill a law is to empower the women section in the society .The question arises how will this step empower the women. Will women MPs bring time to time legislations which will benefit women? I doubt so. Even if they do so will they able to execute these laws without the help from ministers or bureaucrats in this country.
Or will they demand reservation even in ministerial births and civil services. If we are ready to learn from past experiences then we must know that as a nation we have brought several revolutionary legislations in our parliament but the execution of these laws have been very poor. Land reform policy is only one small example which was not implemented successfully in states like Bihar and Orissa. Naxalism is just the result of our poorly executed well intentioned laws. Moreover, what is the surety that women legislatures will work for the benefit of women free from the pressure of their respective political parties? Even if they mange to do so at center I don’t think that will happen at state levels. When there will be a clash of interests between two states I don’t think women legislatures across the states could show unity and solidarity. For instance it would be interesting to watch what stand women legislatures of Shiv Sena and Maharashtra Navnirman sena take when faced with the issue of outsiders taking jobs in their state.Suppose women applicants come for jobs in Mumbai so what these parties will do? Sure they will oppose these applicants. Now what the women legislatures of these parties will do? Could they resist their party chiefs? Besides, we have implemented quota system for SC, ST. Even after 60 years after reservation these sections of our society are still backward. Only a small section which should better be called creamy layer taking all the advantages.
If the government is really serious about empowering women then it should educate them. The process should start from lowest level rather than apex level. One should have a look at villages where a large chunk of women are still illiterate. They even don’t get equal payment for equal work with their male counterparts. There should be free education or concessions in fees for girls in medical or engineering .There are still several households in India where male child is preferred over female child when education is considered.FINALLY I would like to say we should stop these divisive politics otherwise vested interests will get their opportunity. Already they are raising their voice by demanding sub quota within the quota itself. It’s a dangerous thing to happen for the nation. We must rethink this reservation policy in any form whatsoever.
.I will have to agree...
It might empower the women, some may say, well only those women who are the relatives of dirty politicians! And even if we have a woman representative who is elected through the same creaky electoral machine that relies on black money, backroom deals and influence peddling then is she going to be different from any of the existing elected representatives?
Is being a woman enough to represent women?
.arre bhai kyon tension lete ho sarkar khali baithi hai kuch to kaam karna hi tha, at least this reservation is sensible than sc st..obc today they r reserved smday near we general will be if this prevails.the one gettin 98 in gen is not qualified but a sc studyin in same skul is considered qualified for aieeee
