Women's Reservation Bill rocks Parliament
Unprecedented scenes were witnessed in the Rajya Sabha on Monday, March 8 after the Women's Reservation Bill was moved for consideration in the Upper House.
UNPRECEDENTED SCENES were witnessed in the Rajya Sabha on Monday, March 8 after the Women's Reservation Bill was moved for consideration in the Upper House. Members of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Samajwadi Party (SP) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP)came together and created pandemonium in the house and even tried to attack the Chair.

Some RJD members in a shocking display of indiscipline tore the copy of the Bill, whereas some SP MLAs tried to attack the chairman and raised slogans against the Women's Reservation Bill. The ruckus in the Rajya Sabha started as soon as Law Minister M Veerappa Moily moved the bill providing 33 per cent reservation to women in Parliament and state legislatures.

The situation came to such a pass that opponents of the bill tried to uproot the mike on Chairman's table. Security men present inside the house however shielded the chairman and prevented the MPs from reaching the table.

As per the latest reports, both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha have been adjourned amidst mounting protests from the RJD, SP and BSP members. The opponents of the Bill are demanding adequate reservation to women belonging to backward castes as well as scheduled castes and scheduled tribes.

In the Lok Sabha also these parties have opposed the Bill and forced adjournment over the issue. Party MPs led by Lalu Prasad Yadav and Mulayam Singh trooped into the well of the House as soon as Speaker Meira Kumar called for the Question Hour.
