People in the Garhwal region are now looking with great expectations to the foundation stone laying ceremony of the must awaited Rishikesh-Karnaprayag rail line on November 9 by the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson Ms Sonia Gandhi.

The 125 kms long railway line in the mighty Himalayan region in one of the toughest terrains would not only make the travel between Karnaprayag and Rishikesh a delight but would also save time. This rail link will help the pilgrims visiting Badrinath, Hemkund sahb, Valley of Flowers, Nanda Devi biosphere, etc and to those who wish to travel to Gairsain side would be able to travel by train upto Karnaprayag.

Strategically this rail line would also be of great help to the Indian army and other para-military forces who travel in this region which shares its border with China. Satpal Maharaj told that the project would be completed in the next five years and it was a gift by the Congress party to the people of state before elections.
