World cup victory overshadows crucial pending issues
With the entire nation celebrating the ICC 2011 World Cup victory, the government has been successful enough in putting pending and crucial issues in the background for the time being. We should not forget about corruption and governance deficit.
THE WHOLE country is united in celebrating the victory of Indian cricket team in world cup. President Pratibha Patil, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and UPA Chief Sonia Gandhi have congratulated the Indian team for its victory.

Even Pakistan's premier Yusuf Raza Gilani, who had witnessed semi-final match between India and Pakistan at Mohali, has also congratulated the team. The congratulatory notes was also filled in by popular film stars.

Frenzied fans danced in streets to celebrate the victory. With due apology to lakhs of cricket fans it can be safely said that it seemed as if the Congress party and UPA government headed by Dr. Manmohan Singh had won the match.

The real issues facing the country C.W.G scam, spectrum scam and issue of black money abroad have been buried under the carpet. The other real issues before the country such as unemployment, cross-border terrorism, corruption and poverty have gone into the background for the time being.

If the congress party dares to hold mid-term polls then there are chances of its victory at the hustings. Admittedly, cricket unites the country like war time. But it has no concern for crores living under below poverty line who are always worried about two square meals.

The hype suits corporate houses and players. Players will market products. A leading corporate house purchased seats at Wankhede stadium in Bombay, which he will use to oblige friendly politicians cutting across party lines and media persons for lobbying in their favour.

A model even went to the extent of announcing that she will strip in full public view if the Indian cricket team wins the world cup.

During the Mohali semi final, which was played between India and Pakistan, Haryana chief minster Bhupinder Singh Hooda felt obliged when Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Badal sent him fifteen VIP pass for the match.

Thousands of crores of rupees on bets were at stake. Leader of opposition Sushma Swraj has rightly asked the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh not to mix cricket with diplomacy.
