World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought observed in Rajasthan
The World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought (RDCDD) was observed on June 17 in countries having desert regions including India in which western region of the country has desert or semi-arid land. In Rajasthan, a report on the expansion of desert in the state was shared, reported Rajasthan Patrika.

The World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought (RDCDD) was observed on June 17 in the countries having deserset regions including India in which wesrtern region of the country has dessert or semi-arid land. In Rajasthan, a report on expasion of desert in the state was shared, reported Rajasthan Patrika.
 
Based on the report of Ministery of Environmemet and Indian Space Research Organization ( ISRO), the newspaper stated that in the last five years, desserification has increased fro 3 to 5 percents in various parts of the state.
 
The purpose the observance, established by the United Nations (UN) in 1995, is to highlight ways to prevent desertification and recover from drought. The theme for RDCDD this year was the 'ecosystem-based adaptation' with the slogan ‘Land Belongs to the Future, Let’s Climate Proof It’. 
 
On the occasion of RDCDD, various organizations of the United Nations System, international and non-governmental organizations and other interested stakeholders organized a series of outreach activities worldwide and in Africa in particular..
 
According to the UN, RDCDD is an occasion to remind that desertification can be effectively tackled, that solutions are possible by strengthening community participation and co-operation at all levels of the administeration.
