World Day to Combat Desertification observed across the globe
It was informed on the social media that the World Day to Combat Desertification (WDCD) was observed by UN Agencies, environmentalists and activists on the 17th June to promote public awareness of international efforts to combat desertification. The inset picture was circulated by the UN's Convention to Combat Desertification.

The Springer Climate wrote on Facebook, "It is the 25th anniversary of Day to Combat Desertification. We have gathered latest scientific findings on desertification and its possible solutions. Read the collection and share it with your peers!"

According to the UN, the observance is a unique moment to remind everyone that land degradation neutrality (LDN) is achievable through problem solving, strong community involvement and co-operation at all levels.

It is informed that the observance was declared by the United Nations General Assembly in 1995. Many countries, groups and individuals celebrate and observe WDCD by organizing a variety of outreach activities and awareness raising events.
