On October 1, 2010, the World Elders Day was organised by the members of the Prachestha Family (an integral trust for holistic development of the society) in town hall at Koraput for the second time. Around 570 senior citizens attended the function.
THE WORLD Elders Day celebration was organised by the members of the Prachestha Family (an integral trust for holistic development of the society) at the townhall in Koraput on October 1, 2010.
According to information, as many as 570 senior citizens attended the function out of which 400 elderly people, both men and women were medically examined, medicines were given to them as well. The expenses incurred by them were reimbursed by the Prachestha Family. In addition to the 570 old, 135 young volunteers participated in the programme to take care of the old. Breakfast and lunch was provided to all participants, who attended the programme. The senior citizens one after the other spoke about their experiences and the present day to day developments and future too. On one side, the old were seen busy getting medical check ups, some of them were seen dancing and singing, and others were seen sharing their early days with the old and the young. It was all together a festival of old for the younger generation. The most important thing was that those who participated rather encouraged the organisers were journalists, advocates and social workers. Prominent journalist Om Prakash Sinha, advocates Ajit Kumar Patra and Bibek Ranjan Sethi played a vital role on one hand, introducing the elderly people to others and on the other hand, politely honouring the old to the dias. Retired government officer Narahari Sethi was seen organising the function like a young boy. The team comprising Soumendra Swain, Rajesh Yadav, G Arun Kumar, Nanda Kishore Guru, Meeta Routray, Subhasri Subudhi and Sachin Panda extended their fullest co-operation to make the function a grand success. A souvenir was released by the chief guest of the function the superior Justice Dr Debadutta Das, who is also the general director, International Lawyers for World Peace, panel executive, World Peace Prize Committee reached Koraput to attend the function from USA.
The members of Prachestha Family also organised ‘PRAYAAS’- a play to encourage the old. The district culture officer Sanyasi Pujari extended his co-operation officially within his official limitation. The district collector Rajesh Prabhakar Patil assured to extent financial support, which is yet to be receive by the organisation. For the first time the Prachestha Family selected three eminent personalities in undivided Koraput district this year. They are Krushna Chandra Panigrahy, who is protecting the tribal culture, tradition and improving their living condition, health and education; K Sudhakar Patnaik who is contributing as a journalist for the development of KBK (Koraput, Blangir and Kalahandi) districts; and Swaraj Khemundu being a tribal himself contributed half of his life for creating awareness among the tribals to fight for the right to live in a civilised society. Panigrahy was honoured as ‘Koraput Gourav’, Patnaik was honoured as ‘Sambadik Gourav’ and Khemundu was honoured as ‘Koraput sourav’. The Prachestha Family head Manoranjan Routray had ambitious plans to look after the old who are in miserable conditions. He told the reporters that as many as sixteen old people were identified for cataract operation and the operation will take place within fifteen days. He also decided to launch a free mobile health unit to provide medicare at the door steps of the tribals those who are living in remote villages. All the participants, who participated in the function were honoured at the end of the meeting. Sanjit Das, professor at Central University, Koraput and local MLA Raghuram Podal also graced the function.
