Environment and climate change in the world including Korea and India falls in the domain of human resource development (HRD) which is essential for sustainable development. Environment is the cry of today and it is the duty of the Government to maintain it.
Economic development without environmental considerations can cause serious environmental damage, in turn impairing the quality of life of present and future generations. The challenge of sustainable development thus requires integration of the country's quest for economic development with its environmental concerns including climate change.
There is a need for policy implication oriented research and not only t - value significance at 95 percent level of significance with many disconnections .The research should provide policy implications which make the nation capable for facing the environmental challenges ensuring inter-generation equity which ensures sustainable development.
To enhance total factor productivity in various sectors of the economy, we need to increase the investment in research and development (R&D) which calls for utilizing environmental friendly technology with innovation capabilities and technological advancements.
We need to understand, analyze, interpret and adopt the concept of sustainable development. It is a process of change, in which exploitation of resources, the direction of investments, the orientation of technological development, and institutional change are all in harmony and enhance both current and future potential to meet human needs and aspirations It ensures not only intra generation but inter generation equity in all walks of life in every economy of the World including India..
Interdependent and mutually reinforcing pillars of sustainable development are economic development, social development, and environmental protection.
The bottom line of sustainable development is quality of life of present and future generations ensuring inter generation equity. For achieving the objective of sustainable development, it is of utmost importance to increase quality of life and utilize efficiently the natural resources. Keeping environment clean and protecting the economy from pollution are other important requirements.
To strike the right balance between economic growth, environment and climate change, we need to demonstrate foresight and restraint in our policies and programmes. We have to take cognizance of the weak state of the industrial economy which calls for concrete plan of action instead of lip service. We need to take small steps to think big, dream big and act big.
To ensure clean environment, we need inclusive innovations which are capable of ensuring inclusiveness meaning thereby use of the used less (not useless) and care of the cared less ( not careless). This calls for investment in research and development (R&D) which is to be considered insurance policy for hedging against uncertainties in the Indian markets whose premiums are paid during good times.
Research is a strategic commitment which is necessary and sufficient condition for economic growth. The drastic cuts in R&D expenditures during economic downturn is short-sightedness and should be avoided. To survive and thrive in the coming years, there is a strong case for investment in R&D like Finland in the early 1990s. We should remember that hard work is the key to open the door of luck for Indians in India and elsewhere in the world.
Let us push all the buttons to safe guard environment and revive the sentiments among all the stakeholders. We need to address the associated problems of climate change on a war footing with monitoring on daily basis.
We need to act strongly against agitations of all kinds by the people with good governance. We need to remove impediments in building healthy environment.
Let us remove the delays in completing the tasks on time which play with future of the people with negative implications affecting next generation. To grow as a confident person, one should allow oneself to embark on adventurous journeys for protecting environment. Let us learn to accept the relationships all kinds including human beings with nature and learn more about oneself with jubilant spirit in the years to come.
To remain at the peak of wellness, let us learn to live in the midst of peace and quiet. Let us make a move into mainstream consciousness. To ensure balance in the relationships of climate change, environment and economic development, we need good governance which means SMART (SIMPLE, Moral, Action Oriented, Responsive and Transparent) administration.
We need to believe in simple living and no thinking. It does not mean we should not think but think of those things which are in our control, meaning there by our actions and should not bother about the results.
