The gold-plated snare drum was presented to the Ringo Starr by the Ludwig Drum Company during the Beatles' 1964 U.S. tour in Chicago.
According to the museum, the drum will be shown from Ringo Starr's birthday on July 7 through December in the Museum's second-floor Musical Instruments Galleries. The snare drum, which measures 14 inches in diameter and 5-1/2 inches high, will be on view within the Metropolitan Museum's newly renovated Musical Instruments Galleries.
Starr was musically creative, and his contribution as drummer for the Beatles band's music has received high praise. This year on January 12, Ringo Starr released his fifteenth studio album Y Not. During the 50th Grammy Awards, Starr with others accepted the Best Compilation Soundtrack award for Love.
On the celebration of Ringo Starr's 70th birthday in July, second-season premiere of the popular contemporary music series, Live from the Artists Den will be telecast by public television stations throughout the United States.
