World Meteorological Day celebrated with theme 'Hotter, drier, wetter. Face the Future'
World Meteorological Day (WMD) was observed by the UN agencies on March 23 with theme, 'Hotter, drier, wetter. Face the Future,' to illustrate the reality of climate change. It highlights that without urgent action to cut emissions, the trend of increasing temperatures and the frequency and intensity of extreme events will accelerate.

On the occasion WMD-2016, a theme-based calendar has been released and made available by World Meteorological Organization (WMO) for download that includes photographs from around the world based on a WMO Facebook competition. The themes of the calendar are the Climate Change, Disaster management and Risk Management.

The WMO has also come out with Latest Documents on modeling the indirect and fiscal risks from natural disasters for informing options, enhancing resilience and building back better.

WMD is being commemorated since 23 March 1950, by the UN's World Meteorological Organization with the essential contribution that National Meteorological and Hydrological Services. Each year, the celebrations focus on a theme of topical interest.

The fundamental mission of WMO is to support the countries of the world in providing meteorological and hydrological services to protect life and property from natural disasters related to weather, climate and water, to safeguard the environment, and to contribute to sustainable development.

This cannot happen without the necessary observations, research and operations that develop the understanding and knowledge of weather and climate.
