The match between these two players was played at a good tempo and Berdych did not have much difficulty in winning the first set. But Monfils came back in the second set stretching the game to the decider. Berdych was the better player on the day. These two players fought till the last point and were able to entertain the audience with their display of great tennis.

Monfils, the defending champion, was eager to win it once again. The scoreline is deceiving as it was a very close encounter, where they were matching shot for shot.
