World Radio Day: UN chief and Indian Prime Minister greet people associated with the world of radio
Secretary-General of UN Antonio Guterres and India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended greetings on World Radio Day celebrated on February 13.

Guterres in his message stated, "Radio reaches the widest audience in the world. In an era of dramatic advances in communications, radio retains its power to entertain, educate, inform and inspire. It can unite and empower communities, and give voice to the marginalized."

In respect of theme of the observance 'Radio and Sports' he added, "This year, with the Winter Olympics now under way, we also recognize the many ways in which sports broadcasting brings people together around excitement and achievement. On World Radio Day, let us celebrate both radio and sports as ways of helping people achieve their full potential."

Greeting all those associated with the world of radio, which included those working in the industry and the listeners, India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi has in his message said, "On World Radio Day, I convey my greetings to all those associated with the world of radio, which includes those working in the industry and the listeners. May this medium always remain a focal point of learning, discovering, entertaining and growing together."

He added in his released message that the radio had been bringing us closer and he was continuously experiencing this through 'Mann Ki Baat' series of interactions with people.

The UN deems that radio is still the most dynamic, reactive and engaging medium there is, adapting to 21st century changes and offering new ways to interact and participate. It is felt that by listening to its audiences and responding to their needs, radio provides the diversity of views and voices needed to address the challenges we all face.
