If you have known a person who cannot see, you should all the more be aware of the points that can help you avoid any eye disease. Living without vision is very difficult and World Sight Day makes people aware of this.
IN 2007, The Times of India reported that India had the maximum number of blind people in the world. They said 15 million people in India were blind, suffering from cases of avoidable blindness. Supporting evidence to the statistics is always available around us as we all see children as small as 8 years old wearing thick bottle glass spectacles. It is 2011 and WHO has released a report that states that 285 million people are visually impaired worldwide, 39 million are blind and 246 have low vision. Is the world moving backward or is this an improment?

World Sight Day is celebrated every year on the second Thursday of October, and 2011 is celebrating it on the 13th of October. The important reason to celebrate this day is to let institutions and people come together so that awareness regarding vision loss and blindness can be spread. It is a global effort by WHO and the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness to prevent blindness. This is also called as VISION 2020.
Awareness is an important aspect that's missing worldwide about blindness. Simple things such as not stressing eyes too much and taking proper care of children from an early age will reduce self-induced eye problems. Another gnawing problem is the fact that older generation is rising in number, which adds to the eye problems in a country. They have age-related eye problems that cannot be altered or cured.
On this World Sight Day, come forward to know your eye better so that proper care can be taken. Vision 2020 that aims at providing maximum awareness should be supported so that the organisation can reach its goal.
