World Theatre Day: Make theatre an acting lab to seek and find common language to perform, says Carlos Celdran
World Theatre Day is being observed across the globe on March 27 as a celebration to recognise the value and importance of theatre and realise its potential for economic growth.

In respect of the performers and theatre lovers, Brett Bailey, stage director from South Africa, as an author of earlier Message Author had said, "We gather to weep and to remember; to laugh and to contemplate; to learn and to affirm and to imagine."

Carlos Celdran; an award-winning and highly esteemed theatre director, playwright, academic and professor, living and working in Havana, Cuba; in his message for this year, urged for fusion of different cultures for being acclaimed beyond borders and theatre to work as an acting laboratory to seek and find a common language for performing and presenting work all over the world.

Here are some quotes on theatre:

All the world's a stage and, all the men and women merely players; They have their exits and their entrances... -William Shakespeare

The stage is a magic circle where only the most real things happen, a neutral territory outside the jurisdiction of Fate where stars may be crossed with impunity. A truer and more real place does not exist in all the universe. - P.S. Baber

The theatre is certainly a place for learning about the brevity of human glory: oh all those wonderful glittering absolutely vanished pantomime! Now I shall abjure magic and become a hermit: put myself in a situation where I can honestly say that I have nothing else to do but to learn to be good." - Iris Murdoch

Theatres are curious places, magician's trick-boxes where the golden memories of dramatic triumphs linger like nostalgic ghosts, and where the unexplainable, the fantastic, the tragic, the comic and the absurd are routine occurrences on and off the stage. - E.A. Bucchianeri
