Worst birthday gift: Mahut thrashed by Djokovic
What is the worst birthday gift that one can ever receive? Ask Nicolas Mahut and he may say losing a match in the worst impossible manner, as it was the case when he was thrashed by Djokovic, where the score line read, 6-0, 6-1 and 6-1 in the Australian Open.
NICOLAS MAHUT received the worst birthday present ever, as he lost his third round match against one of the strongest contenders of the Australian Open, 2012, Novak Djokovic, who thrashed Mahut in straight sets, with the score reading 6-0, 6-1 and 6-1, reported AP. The match lasted for 74 minutes only. The defending champion, Djokovic looks in good touch to regain the title, which he had clinched last year too.
With this result, other players in the circuit must have been alarmed as the competition is gradually moving into the
business end of the competition, as he has progressed into the fourth round of the competition. His match against Mahut had class written all over it. Though Mahut was not moving very easily in the court, due to his injured knee, still one cannot take anything away from Djokovic’s game. In the matches played so far, Djokovic has put up great performances.
The Serbian was all guns blazing during the match, as he was hitting the balls with ease past Mahut. It was a visual treat for fans as he was playing both the backhand and the forehand from the baseline. The question that needs to be asked is, whether the player would be able to continue with such form throughout the competition. If he does, it would take something special from his opponents to knock him out of the competition.
AP reported, that the winner of Milos Raonic and Lleyton Hewitt’s match in the third round would be facing Djokovic, who looks to be in red hot form. Australian fans would be rooting for Hewitt to enter the fourth round. If it is the case, Australian fans would go all out and support the home town favourite, Hewitt, who may draw inspiration from his fans.
