Enroute to the final, wrestler, Sushil Kumar defeated Akritidis of Greece, Martin Sebastian of Germany and Buyan Jav of Mongolia. The semifinal bout saw Sushil fight tooth and nail to trounce Hasanov Jabrayil of Azerbaizan by 4-3.
WRESTLER SUSHIL KUMAR scripted history, when he won the gold medal at the World Wrestling Championship in Moscow. By winning gold medal Sushil became the first Indian ever to achieve such a feat.
In the final bout for the top prize, gold medal, wrestler Sushil Kumar trounced Russian grappler, Gogaev Alan. The all important bout for gold medal was decided on point basis with the score card reading 3-1 in favour of Sushil Kumar.
