Yahoo CEO Carol Bartz axed over phone
Yahoo CEO Carol Bartz was fired from the top job on Tuesday over phone when she was traveling from New York to Maine. Yahoo's operations will now be headed by Timothy Morse, the company's chief financial officer.

BARELY AFTER two and a half years, Carol. A. Bartz, Yahoo’s chief executive officer, was shown the door by the company’s Chairman of the Board on Tuesday. Her stint to revitalise the company did not last long even after one of the leading American dailies had gone overboard stating that she possesses the skills to whip the company back to shape. Bartz took charge of Yahoo’s operations in January 2009, after a dissatisfied set of investors had asked one of the company’s co-founders Jerry Yang, to quit. In her e-mail sent out from her Apple iPad, titled ‘Goodbye’, she wrote, "I am very sad to tell you that I’ve just been fired over the phone by Yahoo’s chairman of the board. The mail further read that It has been my pleasure to work with all of you and I wish you only the best going forward."

When the news was broken to Bartz, she was on a flight back to New York from Maine. When probed behind what could be the possible reason why she was asked to leave, a person acquainted with the operations of the search engine major was quoted saying that Yahoo hasn’t asserted what it wants to be — whether it wants to be a media or technology company — and Carol, rightly or wrongly, is being blamed for a bad search deal and a less than stellar performance.

Ever since Bartz had joined the company, she was under constant pressure from the board as well as the investors to turn the company around despite laying off numerous employees and unhooking undeserving services from the company’s list.
