AS A tribute to the 2009 World Series Champion New York Yankees, New York City will be hosting a parade today at 11 EST. The parade route would start from Battery Park, heading up through the Financial District, through the Canyon of Heroes. It will be at City Hall’s Plaza where the parade would end.
On Wednesday night the Fall Classic ended with Bronx Bombers winning their 27th championship by beating the Philadelphia Phillies 7-3.
Hideki Matsui was awarded the MVP honors for his extraordinary performance, which included a two run homer off Pedro Martinez. It did set an early tone for Joe Girardi’s side.
It will be a sunny yet a chilly day in NYC. Beginning at 8 a.m. streets in the vicinity of the parade formation area will be closed to prepare for the celebration. A lot number of trains and ferries have been scheduled to run for the fans who want to attend the parade.
Yankees would be presented the keys to the city by the Mayor, Michael Bloomberg. A huge screen will be placed near the City Hall for the public to view the parade as there would only be limited space for the ceremony, which would even require tickets.
The city’s last parade honored the Giants when they laid their hands on the Super Bowl XLII. The cost was around $331,000 all but $24,000 of which was covered by NYC & Co., the city’s marketing arm.
For those who cannot attend the festivities, there would be a lot of TV and radio stations which will broadcast the Yankees Parade live. The event will also be streamed on a number of websites.
