The New York City (NYC) Mayor Michael Blooomberg bestowed the honor on the team at a ceremony on the City Hall steps by presenting them the keys to the city for their World Series win after the team paraded up the Broadway through a storm of confetti all over.

All the team members waved to thousands of fans as they marched onto the podium as We are the champions was played on the loudspeakers. Derek Jeter held the world championship trophy high above his head with thousands of fans cheering him.

Earlier fans had gathered on the Yankees Parade 2009 Route that started from Battery Park and ended at City Hall. A gaint baseball sign with the number 27, marking the total number of World Series wins for the team, was decorated on the front of the building. Crowds kept roaring, bells of the churches kept ringing as the New York Yankees celebrated their 27th championship in a grand way.
The City Hall gave 500 lucky tickets to fans while others who did not have the tickets had to be contented by watching the ceremony on the large screen that has been set up near the City Hall Park.

The Yankee Parade TV coverage as well as streaming is available on a number of websites. One can watch the Yankee Parade online on these websites.

I attempted to take my 13 year old son and his friend to the parade. We could not get near enough to see anything. The police were directing the people, but unfortunately, no one was counting. There was too much pushing and shoving for anyone to say they could feel safe.

I tried to take my 13 year old and 4 year old daughters also, we could not get to the parade we were half a block a way and couldnt get any closer. Most people tried to watch out for the little one but some just didnt care. I have to say the police officers were excellent, very helpful, very nice, i greatly appreciated that.
