KARNATAKA CHIEF Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa may be breathing a little easier, with members of lawyers organisation Adivakta Parishad taking to the streets in support of him on Thursday amidst the conflict between him and Governor Hansraj Bhardwaj regarding the land scam.
Some 200 Parishad members held a rally to protest against the Governor’s criticism of Yeddyurappa and his government regarding the land scam, in which the chief minister stands accused of handing over state land to his son, son-in-law and daughter-in-law. They started the rally in front of the High Court and marched to the governor’s residence, the Raj Bhavan.
“He [the governor] shouldn’t get involves in politics—he should instead maintain the sanctity of his office,” said S.V. Malikarjun, an advocate at the Karnataka High Court, who was taking part in the demonstration. This protest comes two days after Bhardwaj approved the prosecution of Yeddyurappa over the land scam. The advocates, led by Adivakta Parishad President Prakash Rao, marched to the Raj Bhavan to hand over a petition to the governor.
“Advocates for democracy and no politicisation of Raj Bhavan!” the protestors shouted. “The Governor’s job is not to delve into the affairs of the chief minister,” Rao said.
