Tainted Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa resigned from the Chief Minister's post on Thursday evening in a letter sent to BJP President Nitin Gadkari. The senior party leaders will meet on Friday to decide the next CM for the state.
FOLLOWING HIS indictment in the multi crore illegal mining scam in Karnataka, Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa has sent his resignation to BJP President Nitin Gadkari on Thursday evening. Incidentally, under special circumstances where a Chief Minister is found guilty, he sends his resignation to the Governor, which quite did not happen so taking into consideration his tiffs with the Governor Hans Raj Bhardwaj. The step was taken after the party asked the tainted Chief Minister to step down from his post at the party’s Parliamentary Board meeting.
In his resignation, Yeddyurappa has reportedly asked BJP President Gadkari to ensure his safety in the state after he quits office.
In order to restore administration in the state, the senior party leaders and MLAs will meet on Friday to elect a new CM. For the supervision process, senior BJP leaders from New Delhi Arun Jaitley and Rajnath Singh will be present on Friday.
Several leaders are in the fray for leading the next pack in the state. Some of the fore runners in the run for replacing Yeddyurappa include Ananth Kumar, Jagdish Shettar and KS Eshwarappa.
Shettar, who is considered as Yeddy’s biggest rival also has a massive support from the OBC as well as the RSS. However, Shettar is also mired with corruption charges, which may hamper his further movements.
