Fortunately, this possibility especially helps those unfortunate persons who have been tagged as criminals by right or wrong reasons and are lodged in Tihar Jail. There is vast scope to be what one wants to be.

The inmates have the opportunity for reading, writing and higher studies through recognized universities of the country. Vocational courses in various trades such  Banking, Accounting, Tour & Travel Operation, Hospitality, Web Designing and several other soft skills are imparted to the inmates for their betterment in life. Eminent music teachers and DJs diligently train the inmates to dance on the tunes of popular Bollywood numbers. Believe it or not, TJ has a rocking band today known as ‘Flying Souls’ and it really rocks.

One can aspire to become a professional Cricketer, and acquire the skills to become an Artist, a Tailor, a Baker, a Cook, a Halwai, a Weaver, a Barber, a Shoe Maker a Beautician (For women prisoners), a Carpenter, a Gardner, or a computer literate person, etc. The list is endless for the inmates with enormous prospects to enhance their capacity and potential.

As the inmates work and learn certain skills in the jail, they also earn some wages and their homecoming brings lot of enthusiasm and confidence - apart from adding to financial resources. Tihar Jail takes pride that Tihar is “Re-building Lives”. It is our firm opinion that such endeavors will ultimately “Reduce Crime in Your City”. The everyday cases of reported and un-reported chain snatching, theft and other offenses of serious nature can be reduced to a great extent if not eliminated. Though, the pace towards this wonderful initiative is a little slow, the path to positive results can certainly be visualized beyond any doubt.

Tihar Baking School produces several varieties of Biscuits/ Cookies, Namkeens and Spices etc., which are a healthy nutritious snack food hygienically processed and packaged at TJ Factory. The Jail Factory that operates on “No Profit No Loss Basis” has four ISO Certifications - ISO 9001:2008, ISO-14001:2004 and ISO 18001:2007 and ISO 22000:2005 for Excellence in Highest Quality Management, Environmental Management, Occupational Health and Safety Management System and Food Safety & Standards.
