Youth - The promise of tomorrow 17 February, 2016
I see the vast expanse of sky before me. It is limitless. I can see the sun peeking slowly over the mountains, emerging out of its hiding, beckoning me to meet it at the horizon. I want to go out in search of that possible realm where the sun and the sea meet. I want to take flight and discover new beginnings for myself but there is something holding me back. I am Youth- the new generation..
"The only thing constant is change", very rightly put. This change is most often brought about by the new generation. You may consider each generation as a separate nation with their own ideas, aspirations, attitudes and cultures which it brings into the world.

I feel that the biggest challenge our generation is facing is to convince the previous generation that our way of thinking is not wrong, it is merely different. Our challenge becomes to embrace the new times and adapting to the ways of the changing world while keeping with our values and traditions.

However challenges are not the only by-product of change. Change is also the harbinger of new possibilities. Each generation writes its own books and makes its own mistakes. But shame is not in having failed. It is in never having tried. Our generation has been given the gift of technology due to which we have access to endless knowledge and information, something our predecessors never had.

Today we have a number of paths in front of us, waiting for us to embark upon the journeys we deem ourselves fit to succeed in. We have a range of options starting from fashion designing to music, theatre, charter accountancy, becoming a doctor, lawyer, going into politics, media, etc. We know that as the new generation whatever choices we make will not just shape our future but also the future of our country.

Today with the right kind of training, our skills can be harnessed so that we can excel in whatever field we believe ourselves to possess a talent for. We have the ability to make a difference in the world and at the end of the day that is really what one wishes for. We can do so by questioning the existing orders of the society, by being a part of media or testing our abilities by being a part of the political system or we can choose to guide the upcoming generations on their way to glory by becoming Teachers.

But before this Phoenix can go out to conquer the world what it needs is its previous generation to trust it enough to let it take the responsibility that they know they have raised it to shoulder. The youth is finally forgetting petty differences to emerge as a whole, one united nation, ready to break free from the shackles of illogical social constructs. I am not saying that we the youth, will leave behind our traditions, because our past makes us the individuals that we are today but we request our previous generation to understand that we have a duty to ourselves and to our nation to be the best that we are capable of being.

Each generation goes further than the generation preceding it because it stands on the shoulders of the previous generation on its way to contributing its share to the world. Without you our efforts will be futile. Without you our envisioning the world becomes meaningless because without you, our very identities don't hold true.

Therefore we request you, let us free, let us have our own ideals, let us shape our own world. Don't be afraid thinking that like the Icarus we will fall to the earth as our waxen wings get burnt. Have faith in us, that contrary to that like the Phoenix we will be reborn out of our very ashes, starting again when we make mistakes. Believe that like the Phoenix we will burst into flames ready to emerge in a higher realm illuminating others with the light we have within...

I see the vast expanse of the sky before me. It is limitless. I want to take flight and discover new beginnings for myself... and here I rise, letting my wings soar into the sky, making my way to adventures unknown!
