Psephologist Yogendra Yadav is of the view that youth can transform the nation, but he also holds that seeing the urban elite as representative of Indian youth is incorrect. He also opined that politics is the greatest Yugadharma of this generation.
“Youth can be the vehicle of great transformation but in India the word 'youth' itself is a misnomer.A set of urban elite class young people are misinterpreted as youth in india. But that is not the actual youth of the country, said noted political scientist and psephologist Yogendra Yadav, while answering queries of students at IIMC.
While delivering an orientation lecture on the topic, “Why politics matter? Decoding mandate of General elections 2009”, Yadav, said politics is all about disagreement. If there is no difference of opinion then politics will perish.
Politics, he opined is the greatest yugdharma of this generation.Though its quite fashionable to ridicule politics as dirty, everyone of us imbibes it, thinks of it, lives with it and debate supon it, he adde.
He further told the students that elections in india can be viewed either as a gamble, a game or a do or die battle. But no body can deny the fact that election is a mirror which reflects the ground realities and conditions of Indian people.Demand for better governance in some parts of the country is unfortunately branded as regionalism by all, he said, adding diversity of the country demands a coalition form of governance.
