The video sharing website YouTube has launched a dedicated channel YouTube Direct for citizen journalism. It is an attempt to better connect news organisations with user generated content. It will provide a unique platform to the citizen journalists.

Many media organisations want footages of natural calamities, disaster, sensational videos, breaking news videos, etc. News organisations seeking footage can announce it in a variety of ways, including videos posted at YouTube. When a YouTube user has video which they think, will interest the mainstream media, it can make it easy for journalists to contact them. It is an incentive of YouTube to upload great video, because of the recognition given by the news organisations.
