The last rites of YSR were performed in Hyderabad on Friday. Lakhs of admirers attended the funeral cutting across political affiliations. PM Manmohan Singh, Sonia Gandhi and many other leaders also paid homage to the departed leader.
THE LAST rites of Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy were performed with full state honour in his own estate of Idupulapai in Kadapa District on Friday. He was buried according to Christian beliefs exactly at 5.30 pm. The family members of the late leader were present at the burial along with lakhs of followers, senior leaders and politicians.
A sea of humanity was present at the funeral site of Idupulapai, where the dead body of Rajasekhara Reddy was brought by a helicopter from Lal Bahadur Stadium in Hyderabad. Earlier in the morning, the body was taken to Gandhi Bhavan headquarters of Pradesh Congress Committee in Hyderabad from the Camp Office of Chief Minister. Later, the body was shifted to Lal Bahadur Stadium, so that people could pay their last respects to the departed leader.
In Hyderabad, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, AICC President Sonia Gandhi, MP Rahul Gandhi and Opposition leader L K Advani paid their homage and offered condolences to the late leader's family. A number of central ministers including P Chidambaram, Salman Khurshid called upon Jagan Mohan Reddy, the son of departed leader.
Former Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and several VIPs’ missed the funeral because of heavy crowd and traffic jams.
Meanwhile, Jagan Mohan Reddy, son of the late leader has appealed to the people to remain patient as there have been media reports that nearly 60 people have committed suicide in the state.
