YSRCP says HC verdict on Sadavarthi temple lands case is a blow to the TDP govt
Welcoming the High Court verdict in the Sadavarthi temple lands case, YSR Congress has said that it is a big blow to the Chandrababu Naidu government as it had schemed to give away costly lands at throwaway prices to its coterie.

Party MLA Alla Ramakrishna Reddy, who moved a PIL against the issue, said that he would abide by the court ruling to pay additional Rs 5 crore and possess the lands and sought that the TDP should forthwith try to help the poor Brahmin boys in learning Vedic hymns and also help in the regular rituals of small temples with the amount collected.

TDP government sold land worth Rs 6 to 7 crores per acre in Chennai at a throwaway price of Rs 22 lakh per acre to his coterie. The issue was raised at various levels and when there was no proper response, it was taken to court.

He said that they told the court that temple lands were being given away at throwaway prices to a favoured few as the lands were given by Rajas previously to benefit the Brahmin community and to enable the smooth functioning of rituals at small temples.

The court has asked him or a party nominated by him to acquire the land paying the additional money, to be done within the stipulated time, he said. The lands near Chennai would fetch about Rs 100 crore but Chandrababu Naidu has given them away on a platter at Rs 22 crore.

In normal course, even in Endowments Department, if the auction does not fetch the expected amount, there should be re-auction, but here, that was not done and the lands were given away at a very low price. However, now this anomaly has been straightened up by the High Court and justice has prevailed, which is a blow to the TDP government, he said.
