THE RIFT in Congress party may widen as YSR scion, Jagan Mohan Reddy started his Odarpu Yatra (consolation tour) from Srikakulam on July 8, though the yatra was condemned by the Congress High Command as his previous yatra had irked Telangana activists and led to large scale violence in Mahabubnagar. The yatra started on July 8 which is also his father Y.S.Rajashekhara Reddy's birthday, despite repeated efforts to get a positive nod from the Congress high command, Reddy Jr tried to convince Sonia Gandhi that this tour is more personal and does not have any political connection to it.

Present Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, K Rosaiah who expressed his unhappiness related to the tour said, “ He knows that the high command is not in favour of his tour. If he still wants to make use of his freedom, he can. A few MLAs and MPs sought my suggestion on their participation. I told them since the high command is not in favour of the tour they too should stay away from it”.
In his defence, Jagan said, “ I promised the people that I would visit them personally. As YSR’s son, it is my duty to keep my promise. So I will visit them”. He had plans of visiting the families of people who died out of shock upon hearing YSR's helicopter crash.

The yatra is scheduled to continue for 10 days covering 1,100 km and visiting 370 villages. As his convoy of about 100 cars wade its way through the excited onlookers, he made virtual stops and gave impromptu speeches. At one point he also compared his father's life to that of Mahatama Gandhi by saying, “ I am happy you are celebrating my father's birthday. Mahatma Gandhi said my life is a message. My father's life, too, is a message to Andhra Pradesh. His affectionate way of wishing the people was his message.”
