Yuvraj Singh once again blossomed as India defeated West Indies by 20 runs in the opening match of the ODI series. Yuvi smatched off 131 of 102 balls and got the man of the match of his superb efforts.
INDIA DEFEATED West Indies by 20 runs in ODI series opening match. Dhoni won the toss and elected to bat first. After the earlier departure of Gautam Gambhir and Rohit Sharma, Dinesh Kartik (the new opening batsman) and Yuvraj Singh steadied the things for India. Kartik got out after making a fine 67 (77 balls), breaking their third wicket partnership of 135 .
Yuvraj carried along and made a well deserved century. Useful contributions from Dhoni (41), Pathan (40 )and Bhaji (21) helped team India post a mammoth total of 339 for West Indies.
While chasing West Indies started cautiously and added 70 runs in 10 overs, but lost an important wicket of Chris Galye (37). Though West Indies kept the run ticking, they kept losing wickets on regular interval; until, eventually they were bundled out for 319, just 20 runs short in with 11 balls to spare. Chirs Gayle (37), Sarwan (42), Chanderpaul (63) Morton (42), Taylor (21) and Ramdin (29) where the major contributors for West Indians. Ashish Nehra, who making his come back in the team and Yusuf Pathan took 3 wickets each.
A lot of thought should be put into bowling by the Indian if they want put a decent show on the tour. The second match will be played on Sunday (June 28).
