Yuvraj Singh has never done justice to his potential in the longer format of the game. But, on the other hand, he also did not get decent chance to play for India, as the Indian team compromised on a strong middle batting order – Sachin Tendulkar, Dravid, Laxman and Sourav Ganguly in the Test team when he was a regular feature in the ODI squad. But with three of the stalwarts missing and Tendulkar at the twilight of his career, Yuvraj has a greater chance to make it into the Indian squad and establish himself as the regular in the Test arena as well.
Though Yuvraj has been a successful cricketer in coloured clothing for India, but his record in Test matches does not augur too well for the Indian player. He would want to prove himself in white uniform, as it has been said, 'the true test of a cricketer lies in Test cricket'. Even if one has failed in other formats but succeeded in Test matches, the player would be long remembered in cricket history.
The Indian team is undergoing a transition period and there is a serious need for an experienced cricketer like Yuvraj to mould the youngsters into the team and help them grow. Yuvraj understands the fact that he also does not have much cricket left in him. At 31, he might have a maximum of 6-7 years of international cricket left in him, if he succeeds.
